Adjunct position in health, fitness and sport science 07/22/2025 POSITION SUMMARY: This Bluffton University adjunct faculty position will be appointed by the Department Chair of Health, Fitness and Sport Science, as well as the vice president and dean of academic affairs.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

HFS 117 INTRODUCTION TO SPORT MEDICINE (3)

This course focuses on two main areas: a head-to-toe evaluation emphasizing initial care and prevention of athletic injuries, including risk factors and injury mechanisms, with lab experiences in taping, wrapping, and modalities; and CPR and First Aid, with students earning American Red Cross Certification by course end. This course will be conducted in person on Bluffton University’s campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s degree in athletic training and the ability to obtain CPR instructor’s certification. Proficiency in or ability to learn learning management system software (Moodle). Commitment to student-centered and inclusive pedagogy. Understanding of or willingness to engage with Bluffton’s mission as a liberal arts institution in the Anabaptist-Mennonite tradition.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

College-level teaching experience

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teach an undergraduate course in health, fitness, and sport science. Adjunct faculty members are on work agreements that run from one week before classes begin each semester through the day grades are due at the end of the semester. Occasional meetings may be needed during the semester. COMPENSATION: Commensurate with education and experience within the university pay scale. PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT: Primarily sedentary with hours of in-person classes per week (based on course assignment).
